Before and After a LASIK Surgery

LASIK is a corrective surgical procedure that reshapes a patient’s cornea to improve vision. This treatment may get rid of such conditions as near-sightedness, far-sightedness, and astigmatism. LASIK is known to be very effective, but not all patients can undergo the procedure. Those who are thinking of getting this treatment must first consider a few details.

Qualifying for LASIK

Before performing any medical procedure, the physician would always do a preliminary check up to see if a patient is a good candidate for the process. In the case of LASIK, several factors can disqualify a patient, including the patient’s age, health, and lifestyle. The risks and side effects may be magnified if one goes through with LASIK without the right preconditions.

Post – LASIK Care

Despite its high rate of success, LASIK does not come with a 100% guarantee. Post treatment consultations and follow up exams will allow the doctor to monitor the progress of the treated eye, and to check on the effectiveness of the treatment.

Additionally, patients have to understand that the effects of LASIK are not permanent, and one’s eyesight may still change over time. Continuous checkups with the ophthalmologist will be very helpful in monitoring a patient’s visual capacity, and determining any need for a new LASIK procedure, or any other treatment.
